BE THE BEST DRESSED GUEST
We have our first wedding of the season this June in beautiful Vail and it’s gonna be F A N C Y y’all. Our first Black Tie event together and I’m obviously very excited to get all dolled up. The invitation says “Black Tie Optional” which to Gus means “eh’ you can wear whatever it’s an option”… so many deep signs. One for relief that he’s a groomsmen though, and only has one option, a tux! 😏 Black tie for men means a tux or nice clean black suit. For us ladies, it’s less specific and we can go with a formal gown or a very glamorous cocktail dress. I’ve been hunting for a gown all week and thought what the heck, why not get my dresses ordered for the other 3 weddings we have coming up. They’re less formal but going to be just as much fun!
I think the reason wedding guest dress shopping is so difficult is because no wedding is the same… there are casual weddings, afternoon weddings, barn weddings, ballroom weddings, black tie weddings. It really depends on your invitation and the time of day. The collection I made below has a little bit of everything so hopefully, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for this year.
There are really only 2 rules of thumb I use when picking out the perfect wedding guest dress. Is it elegant? Is it any color but white? I get super nervous about the white, it just has to be a shade too light or not enough florals and you’re awkwardly close to matching the bride. Once I wore a light pink/purple dress to a rehearsal dinner, not white at all either but everyone else happened to wear dark dresses and it was just me and the bride glowing through the pictures. Needless to say, I changed in the car before dinner thanks to living on the road and 10 dresses hanging in there.
Below is my personal collection of wedding guest dresses this season with options for afternoon, evening, and formal invitations. Hope it helps you find what you’re looking for, most of these come in multiple colors too!
