LITTLE PLEASURES IN LUCERNE
If darling is what you're looking for, pack your bags and dust off that passport, Switzerland is waiting! I've breezed by this postcard city once before a few years back and it was such a treat to return for a few lovely days along Lake Lucerne.
Upon arrival we checked into what is one of the most elegant hotels I've had the pleasure of staying in. Hotel Des Balances is right on the lake, overlooking the infamous Chapel Bridge and teal peaks of the Jesuit Church. I'll be sharing more about the Hotel soon, but I highly recommend it! Our first night, we celebrated with a pop of Champagne and Swiss Chocolates (I truly ate an unbelievable amount of chocolate on this trip… with no regrets) on the balcony, then set off for a cozy evening around town. Just over the Bridge, we stopped at Opus to enjoy their bright white and blue patio with a cappuccino and snacks before wandering through the cobble stone streets. This café has a romantic dining area inside as well, sprinkled with candles and lined with wine bottles. A very well rounded restaurant if you ask me!
The entrance to our hotel leads right into the square of Old Town; winding streets of shops and cafés (on Sundays shops are closed so plan accordingly if you can!) Just to your left when you walk out the door is an Italian restaurant; this was our lunch spot for day 2! La Terrazza has two patios right on the water and charming indoor seating. From there, we strolled down the lake watching the boats, mountains and tending to our sweet tooth with, you guessed it...gelato!
HOW TO GET THERE
The Lucerne train station is right in the city center, about a 3-minute walk from the main bridge and 6-minute walk to our hotel. Very convenient! Even if you just had a few hours, you could stroll off the train, around the sights, and be back on your way. However, it's worth a day or two if you have the time!
