Big news… our little family is finally growing!
Gus and I fell in love over a decade ago (more on our love story) and have dreamed about the family we would grow together. He’s one of five kids and I’m one of four, so we had pretty big plans in mind for a pretty big family. Tying the knot at 22, we guessed two years of marriage would be enough time to enjoy life as newlyweds and start thinking about... babies! NOPE. With the constant moving, new jobs, and excitement of new cities, babies just weren’t on our hearts. Until we found ourselves settled into a home in Nashville, embarking on 5 years of marriage. That’s when the fever came in hot! Baby fever that is.
To be honest, Gus had baby fever months before me while we were still in Chicago. My fear was that God willing I get pregnant, I’d be going through 1st-trimester exhaustion and nausea during our move to Nashville. After 4 moves… I’m well aware moving is plenty exhausting on its own. More on 1st Trimester coming soon! So we waited until we had furniture to sit on, a fridge to eat from and a few more little luxuries that are surprisingly impactful in everyday living. Then, once our new home finally felt like a home, Gus’s fever started spreading 😊
WHEN WE FOUND OUT!
One very memorable Friday morning, we slept in a little more than usual. Feeling funny for a few days I insisted on taking a pregnancy test before heading down for coffee (which surprisingly, didn’t sound as good as usual.) The second I set that stick down and Gus started the timer on his stopwatch—oh yea, this baby daddy wears a black stopwatch all-day-ery-day— my knees started shaking, my stomach dropped and I was non-stop smiling. I kept telling Gus “it’s positive” and he kept asking if I peaked, which I didn’t but somehow I just knew. Something was different from the other tests we took over the past 4 months, but I’ve never been pregnant so what did I know… The longest 5 minutes E V E R finally passed and two little pink lines made it official. We’re having a baby!
Since then… I’ve been telling everyone within a few feet from me I’m pregnant. Turns out, I can’t keep a secret very well. Sharing our good news our close friends and family as we saw them and praying over the little blueberry in my belly to keep growing. When we made our first appointment with the doctor, I found out I was already 6 weeks pregnant, which was much to my surprise since I was estimating about 3 days! Turns out, your pregnancy starts 2 weeks before you even make a baby… what!? Shows how much I have to learn about growing humans.
MY FEAR OF INFERTILITY
That first appointment marked a milestone I couldn’t quite wait for. Hearing the heartbeat, a healthy heart beat of a healthy baby. So much can happen, or not happen, in the early stages of pregnancy and miscarriage was of course on my mind. We also happen to find out during infertility awareness so it was literally also right in front of me whenever I looked at my phone or turned on the Today Show. I’m naturally overly optimistic but miscarriage and infertility are very common and so many women struggle with them so I’ve always thought, “why not me?”I think as a protective mechanism, I let myself believe it to prepare my heart for potential devastation.
I can’t begin to explain the joy and emotion that came from those little pink lines or the sound of our babies heartbeat. It still brings me to tears to think about. But I can say I’m grateful for every moment of morning sickness, bout of exhaustion, and pound I put on. Dreams are coming true over here and we are over the moon for this gift we’ve been given.
CHANGES WE’RE EMBRACING
For one fashion is taking a serious turn for both Gus and I. If you’re following along on stories, you ‘ve seen “the visor.” Which Gus has been anxiously awaiting for years, knowing he can’t sport those dad vibes until he’s actually a dad. Which he was basically born to be with his stopwatch, high white socks, and now visor… I think it’s safe to say he’s officially living his best life.
For me… well, I lost my waistline weeks ago and next to nothing fits my new body. “The Bump” has ruled out all my shorts, pants, and 80% of my dresses ,jumpsuits and skirts. So, I’ve been shopping and investing in a few new pieces I can comfortably wear throughout pregnancy and even after. The dress in these pictures and the one I’m wearing while I write this are are from Reformation. I’ve got my eye on Hatch ,their maternity pieces and belly oilare right up my alley! Lululemon Align pants came in today actually! So stretchy, comfortable and highly recommended by moms. Ingrid & Isobel has some darling maternity dresses. Plus I picked up some joggers (that sit below the belly) and biker short sfrom Aritzia. Had to stop in while I was in Chicago since everything I packed was a little too tight… they are having a huge sale right now too. Finally, a few flowy dresses from Madewell and Free People. That should do it for now!
BACK TO BRUNETTE
For the first time in ten years, I’ve gone back to my roots! My natural color had been on my mind for a while now but pregnancy took away all my cares and intensified my craving for ease and simplicity. No more bleaching, no more brassy tones and a lot more hair love over here! Thanks for all the love and compliments, it was a pretty big change for me and I really appreciate the support 🤗.
I’ve been working on getting my office done and now that we’re about 60% there… it’s time to turn it into a nursery! I have no idea what it will look like yet but just started making my baby mood and registry board. A little preview of my vibes are below!
ARE WE GOING TO FIND OUT THE SEX? Yes! We actually already know 😆 and plan to share sooon!
DO WE HAVE A NAME? Also… yes! We’ll be sharing that down the road too. Nothing is official yet.
As always, thanks for all your love and support. We’re really excited about this new chapter and I love being able to share it with y’all!
