Portofino was always one of those destinations that looked so beautiful and luxurious that I wasn’t sure if I could afford the experience. However, after a trip there last May, my expectations were met and I wasn't broke! You can definitely spend a fortune there on accommodations but you don’t have to. The hotel we stayed at, Hommo De Picco, it had a wonderful staff and chic cozy rooms. We didn’t pay for a room with a view there because all you need to do is walk across the street to their seaside access and enjoy the beauty of the most amazing lagoon! You can lounge there while overlooking two colorful Italian buildings hanging over Portofino’s beautiful clear waters.
The colorful seaside village is a short stroll along a charming walkway that lifts you up above the narrow streets. It takes you right to the back of the village where we took stairs between the villas down to the shops and restaurants that sit along the waters. We walked about, dipped our toes in the water, and enjoyed a cappuccino before venturing through the quaint shops.
For a great view of the village I recommend taking the short hike up to Castle Brown. From inside the entrance you can explore the opposite side of the famous peninsula and walk through the castle, out to the courtyard, and to the perfect view! The village is even beautiful at night, almost magical, something I couldn’t capture on film though I defiantly tried. The water glistens from the lights of the bistros that play music for all the people enjoying delicious food and the atmosphere of this enchanted village.
