LIFE UPDATE | NOVEMBER 2018
Hello friends! Gosh, these past few months have been c r a z y! I’m not even sure where to start with what life has been like lately but decided we need to grab a coffee and catch up. Since we’re getting together, thought I’d take you to my favorite spot in Nashville, Cafe Rozé. I came here with my mom and sister back in the summer when Gus and I thought we might be making the move south from Chicago. We had just found out —in the Kroger parking lot five minutes earlier— that Emily (my sister) was pregnant! This was our celebratory spot and 5 months later, every so ironically, where I linger with my laptop and date nights with Gus. Who would have thought!?
It’s so interesting to see how life unfolds and where it takes you. Does anyone else feel like they’re constantly surprised with where they are and what they’re doing? At this point, planning ahead seems kinda silly. If you had told me 6 months ago, I’d be living in a brand new city and darling home, working side by side with my husband, I would have thought you were wonderfully imaginative…. 1. It seems absolutely impossible. 2. That sounds like my very own dream, how did you know that!?
In the past three months we’ve managed to live in 4 homes and 2 cities, packed and unpacked our entire lives and carried 3 months of clothes and belongings + one 80 lbs. pup around with us. Our lives have been in a very real LIMBO since we moved out of our Chicago apartment at the end of August. I’ve been describing life lately as a mixture of excitement and exhaustion. We’ve been living with friends, sleeping on air mattresses and floors with absolutely no routine BUT working our way to an exciting new season of life and justifying the lack of sleep with wonderful new memories.

GOODBYE CHICAGO, HELLO NASHVILLE!
I’ve always craved change; the excitement of moving and inviting new experiences and people into my life. But, after 5 years of moving from city to city….. I’m still terrible with goodbyes. Leaving is never easy and Chicago has gifted us with some pretty inspiring people that became part of our lives —a handful of them will be visiting next month, yay! So after our goodbyes, knowing I’d be back soon (because who can resist The Windy City?) Gus, Leroy and I packed our car for the last time and became homeowners in Nashville!
We went from no home to a darling little 3 bedroom house in East Nashville that we absolutely adore! It’s been about 6 weeks of settling in and we managed to have less furniture now than when we moved in…. With 5 years of moving under our belt, we decided it’s time to stop making pieces work and fill this home with a little intention! I spent about 3 of those weeks looking for the perfect area rugs (and made a post for y’all with all the gems I found) and the other 3 weeks learning my way around, clearing the clutter, turning 27, and entertaining friends and family, in our empty home!
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT LIFE IN NASHVILLE
People always say hello and are genuinely SO KIND.
2 miles only take 5 minutes to drive! (Chicago was a 15 min per mile situation)
Parking is pretty much free, saving loads of money!
The restaurant and rooftop game is s t r o n g.
We are only 2 hours from my family Lake House! Expect to see more, boating, babies, chicken and cocktails by mom…
Friends and family visits are at an all time high- the closest we’ve been in 5 years!
Gus and I feel less pulled and more peaceful here.
Leroy has a front yard!
Constantly inspired by the creativity of this city!
Live music everywhere you go!
WHY WE MOVED
Gus (my husband) has been in the Navy since college as a Civil Engineer, which explains why we’ve moved every 2 years. Well… Chicago was our last tour! He’s now working for Amazon (from home with me) and for the first time in our entire lives, we had the chance to choose where we wanted to live. Chicago fit our season of city living and career craziness perfectly. But honestly, we can’t handle the 8 month winters, craved a little more space and knew long-term we wanted to be closer to family. I’m one of 4 and Gus is one of 5, so we’re used to being surrounded by family and really value being closer to them. It all happened so fast, but Nashville checked the boxes so we visited twice and just went for it!
We’re far from settled but really loving life here!
Thanks for reading everyone! So excited to share this season of life and our new home with you.
