The mysterious first trimester, when new mamas are hiding their bump, big baby news and…. all the symptoms that come with it. Thankfully, my best friend and sister were both pregnant last year and shared their entire experience with me. —Very eye-opening!— I didn’t realize until then, most people don’t share their pregnancy until after 12 weeks or so when they're in the good trimester, the 2nd one. They’re glowin’, bumpin', and full of newfound energy! Who’d have thought they just crawled out a few months of nausea, exhaustion, and emotional rollercoasters. Granted, no two pregnancies are the same so I can only really speak for mine and wanted to share a little bit about what went on behind closed doors on our pregnancy journey the first 12 weeks!
Two days before we saw those two glorious little pink lines, I was skeptically nauseous. Ironically, those early cramps and nausea feel so darn similar to PMS it’s all too easy to brush off. Until that moment of clarity (more on how we found out here!) when all your dreams come true and you realize…it’s only the beginning!
We found out at 6 weeks and right around week 7 it hit me. I’m talking random naps at the kitchen table. Sleeping through my alarms and waking up with no motivation. Eating oats and cream of wheat for every meal. and not being able to get enough water in my body. Then, living in fear of 2 O’clock when my evening sickness would set in and knock me out for the night. Turns out, morning sickness doesn’t have to be in the morning, who knew!? My boobs were growing faster than my belly— you can feel it too!— and sometimes I’d just cry. Either from exhaustion— or what I call “the fog”— emotions, or hormones, tough to tell. BUT amid all these symptoms —especially at night while I’m slipping in my PJ’s and witnessing all the changes I’m feeling—I couldn’t help but smile and sometimes even laugh. What a miracle it all is to be experiencing! Each and every moment of nausea or bout of exhaustion meant my body was growing a baby, what!?

*Some of these can be a bit scary (especially the ligament pain) but all are completely normal! I’m grateful I haven’t had any spotting.
It’s hard to explain, but I feel like I had a complete mental shift. My priorities, goals and how I spent my time suddenly started to revolve around something other than myself. A transition I knew would happen and was excited about the redirection. What surprised me was the occasional lack of excitement. Losing interest, motivation and experiencing a total sensation of blah on most days. Outside of smiling at my growing blueberry sized baby and diving into my apps to get a gist for what the heck is going on, I cleared my plate. My body and our lives are in the midst of serious changes so instead of forcing my usual routine, I decided to REST and RE-EVALUATE what normal would look like.
I found my inspiration in my morning bible readings, enjoyed all the time I could with Gus, and made lots of trips to visit friends and family. Of course, I was working everyday too but decided to put my usual hustle on hold to focus on health and relationships.. Not easy as an entrepreneur and freelancer but it was the right thing and brought so much peace and clarity.

Bread, bread, bread! Not something in my pre-baby diet but boy you better believe I ate loaves of toast, bagels, and pastries. People always ask if I got really healthy and picky when we found out. NOPE. I was tired, sick and had to eat. This is survival mode and I needed food! .Cream of wheat, pizza, and bagels were going down great, I even craved caesar salad for a bit! I still had a moderately balanced diet, but I think it’s important it be gentle with yourself and not feel like to you need to uphold any crazy expectations for your body or diet. I want to be healthy for my baby and would do my best with the few good hours I had each day. That’s all I can ask for.

For my friends on here for fashion I’ve still been drooling over some grand new finds. Most things that catch my eye have belts and waist lines and there’s no reason you should have to miss out on it too! My dress above is by English Factory they have a handful of dresses I’m dreaming about right now too! Capulet has great pieces right now, their pink jumpsuit is probably my favorite! Browse through Tiare Hawaii for some fun summer dresses! Lastly, I got a beautiful bridal robe from Flora Nikrooz for a friend and am now obsessed with their gorgeous sleep sets. Probably going to be a post pregnancy purchase for me :)
