HEALTHY HYDRATED SKIN & HAIR
There are benefits to winter, the beauty of the snow and frost, winter sports, and enjoying a cozy fireside. However, dryness is not one of them! The cold air sucks out all of my moisture, leaving my hands, hair and skin cracked and dry, dry, dry. I have been testing products for quite a while trying to compile a group that is both effective and affordable, and VOILA!

A little background so you know what you’re working with. My skin is combination, fluctuating from oily to dry all the time. I do get the occasional break out… I’ll be sharing my secret weapon for those soon, but my main focus in products is hydration and protection (anti aging).
On the topic of hair… I have been highlighting for about 10 years. For a while I was bleach blond, talk about damage! So, my hair dries out really fast, especially with the added stress of styling it. With that being said, I like to use light products that will soak into my strands without weighing them down. Ideally, adding nutrients and protection.
Washing your face with an oil sounds crazy I know, but if you haven’t, you have to try it! Lots of face washes lather and strip all the oils and moisture from your skin leaving it dry (this also causes your skin to produce more of it’s own oil to make up for what it lost). Origins Cleansing Oil works great on removing makeup and dirt, pulling it from your pores and while leaving the natural nutrients you need. It does wash off too, you won’t have an oily residue left behind.
My favorite product out of the bunch! I tried all kinds of masks that claimed to “hydrate”, even the expensive ones and never noticed a change. But, this Farmacy Honey Potion mask actually came through! It delivers a dose of moisture and antioxidants for brighter and healthier skin. I noticed after the first time I used it my skin, specifically cheeks that had been dry from blowing my nose so often… were no longer flakey but smooth!
With an initial consistency of honey, it turns into a warm frothy mask as you massage it into your skin. After using it a few times now, my skin is plum and firm with a moisturized glow that is so hard to get in the cold winter months. Side note: a little goes a long way, the sample from Sephora was enough for three masks. So this jar will last me all year!
I can’t give the mask full credit because this stuff is the bomb! My skin has truly never felt or looked better. After switching to the TULA Hydrating Day and Night moisturizer about two months ago my skin became noticeably smoother and brighter. Believe me, I have tried a lot of products over the years, even stuck with a few, and haven’t seen this big of a difference yet. I have no reservations crediting the loss of my dull, dry, and dreary skin to this wonderful moisturizer! #winner. Use code: ALLISONM20VIP for 20% off all TULA products.
The feeling of dry hands is like nails on a chalkboard for me. It looks bad and feels terrible every time I touch or brush my hand across something. Especially with the excessive hand washing and sanitizing throughout winter, a good hand moisturizer makes all the difference! This Panier Des Sens Hand Cream (you can also get it at the NOTICE stores in Chicago if you’re local!) is thick and spreadable but doesn’t leave your hands feelling oily afterwards. No more dry knuckles and my hands look plush and soft. The scent I have is Verbena, it’s sweet, floral and fantastic!
If you read my side note above, you know I’m always looking for some hydration for my damaged hair. This is a year round need but winter really intensifies it. With highlighted hair, I need something light that won’t effect my color while being effective enough to deliver some nutrients and protection. This OUAI oil is nice and thin so there is no greasy look and it protects against heat while delivering loads of great oils that revive my dry hair. Dryness and frizz are a thing of the past! Not to mention there is no animal testing involved (hallelujah!) and it smells like a bed of roses….. ahh.
