WHAT IS ADVENT
Advent is a countdown to Christmas! How fun right? It can take many forms; calendars, chocolates, crafts… I used to make those red and green chains of construction paper to drape through the kitchen as a constant reminder of the presents to come. One day at a time I would- not so patiently– tear off a piece of the chain and wish Christmas was tomorrow. My handmade craft was a daily reminder to be excited, that something wonderful was coming!
My countdown looks a little different in my 20’s. Instead of crafts its Gods word and instead of presents, it’s His wonderful gift of Jesus. I always said I wanted to be more intentional and actually remember the reason for the season; advent is those words in action!
This year, Sunday, December 3rd kicked off Advent 2017! There are 4 Sundays in Advent leading up to Christmas day, the celebration of Jesus’s arrival! Each day between those Sundays is filled with a practice of remembrance. Remembering why we celebrate gather and give this time every year.
“The virgin will conceive, have a son and name him Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:13 Immanuel means God is with us… What a Gift!
If you’re looking to take the Christian approach to advent this year, it can look like daily versus or maybe a devotional. Something that pulls you into God’s word and prepares your heart for Jesus’s birthday. Woop Woop! I took the devotional route and absolutely LOVE the way She Reads Truth takes on Advent. They pair different pieces of the Bible together that speak of Jesus’s arrival and map out the meaning of Christmas magically.
” I am the root and descendant of David, the bright morning star.” Revelation 22: 16
SHE READS TRUTH | ADVENT 2017
My devotional of choice this year, She Reads Truth Advent! This isn’t a partnership or sponsored post, I order this book a few weeks ago because I love their studies, and honestly, their books are darling. It has scripture, Christmas hymns, some fun facts about Christmas traditions, and wonderfully festive recipes to try out. My lovely little way to get in God’s word and celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ.
It’s officially the second out of four Advent Sunday’s, so if you’re just getting jumping on the advent train and thinking oh no it’s too late, they’ve got you covered. Their study is online too! The bones of the book are on their website so everyone can dive in!
I’m just getting into advent for the first time this year and would love to hear y’alls traditions! Christian based on not, how do you like to count down and enjoy the most wonderful time of the year?
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! HAVE FUN COUNTING DOWN, ONLY 15 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS DAY!
