6 TIPS TO ENJOY A LONG FLIGHT

HOW TO ENJOY A LONG FLIGHT

Jules and I just conquered the longest flight of our lives! Honestly, I thought no amount of preparation or products could change the way I felt after a 25-hour flight. But, I was pleasantly surprised (after 2 plane rides, 1 layover, and a 12-hour time change) that I was refreshed and ready to explore. Here’s what I brought along that made the trip, dare I say…enjoyable!

1. HEALTHY TREATS & SWEETS

I don’t know about you all, but I’m basically always hungry! Especially if I’m trapped in a chair for 20 hours haha. For this super long flight, I wanted to make sure I had a good variety of healthy snacks that could fill me up and keep me busy while we made our way to Bali… and back! I also dread being stuck with the processed, packaged and expensive airport food that seems to be a gamble of my next 24 hours. But, not eating is not an option! So, I packed a killer goodie bag thanks to the Goddess and the Grocer and their selection of local and travel friendly foods! I stocked up on healthy items and even a few sweets, (it’s not vacation if you don’t indulge right?!) If you’re flying out of Chicago they also have a pop up store in the international terminal for any last minutes cravings. 🙂

Along with my Goddess goodie bag, I brought nuts, dried fruit, granola (little pieces last longer!), and protein balls that I keep right at my feet!

2. PAMPER YOURSELF

I can’t believe I ever flew without a little pampering now that I’ve tried it! Instead of letting dirt and makeup or even just lotion sit on my skin for hours at a time, I treated it to rich masks, oils and sprays! I choose my products carefully, mess and water free is an obvious requirement, but these are also natural, organic and cruelty free!

Seeing myself in the mirror after a flight has never been a good experience haha but this time I was so relived and then excited to see a hydrated and clean glow. My skin was better after my 25-hour flight than when I started; now that’s a pleasant surprise!

Herbivore Botanicals is a new favorite brand of mine! They sent a lovely travel set with face oil, hydrating face mist, and clay wash (saving that for Bali) that were so convenient and effective for flying. I also brought along their Moon Fruit night mask to use on our first 15-hour trek to Taiwan. It sits on your skin like lotion and wipes right off with a face wipe!

Jules and I also brought along some amazing products from 100% Pure. They sent over a collagen and caffeine mask, brightening eye masks, and caffeine eye cream (that smells amazing!) Jules and I entertained ourselves with their orange collagen mask on our flight from Taiwan to Bali, but I’m pretty sure the entire flight enjoyed it (firm skin has no shame!) We’ll be using the caffeine mask on the way home 🙂

3. ENTERTAINMENT

This sounds like a stretch, but long flights are a blessing in disguise! I’m always looking for more time, whether a little extra work or a few simple pleasures. This was the perfect opportunity to catch up on a good book, podcasts, writing, and movies! With so much time on my hands, I was excited to fill it all up!

I brought along the book Awe by Paul David Tripp and so far, I’m loving it! It’s an inspirational reminder to appreciate the source of my amazement in the world! With all the beauty and wonder of this trip it’s a fitting reminder of all Gods’ magnificent creations.

As for podcasts, I loaded my phone with Girlboss Radio by Sophia Amoruso, The Goal Digger Podcast, How I Built This,  TedTalks (for business and health) and The Chris Loves Julia Podcast. They were the perfect way to stay productive and entertained!

We flew with EVA Airlines, and I must say, it was amazing! So spacious and CLEAN with wonderful entertainment options! It’s much easier to enjoy yourself in a comfortable environment, I started my vacation the moment I settled into my seat.

4. KEEP IT COZY

Layers, layers, layers! Planes are hot and then cold, so it’s best to have options. This little blush bomber was a lovely light layer for travel and easy to tie around my waist once we stepped into the Bali humidity. The right travel wear can make or break a flight of this length, so a huge thanks to Inflow Style for sponsoring this outfit, my trip was undoubtably made! I haven’t spent this long in one outfit (I’m pretty sure ever) and I was feeling cozy and fabulous the whole way there. I also always pack socks for my flights, and I couldn’t resist this little lemon trouser pair! Lastly, I recommend the potentially obvious neck pillow. I have somehow learned to sleep sitting up without one, but not over night with a 12-hour time change haha. There’s no need to risk not sleeping comfortably.

5. BE PREPARED

My first thought when flying is motion sickness… it’s the worst! So right at the top of my list is Dramamine, drowsy and non-drowsy. There’s no way I’d be reading, writing or enjoying anything if we hit turbulence and I didn’t have those in my bag.

Check with your airline to see if they have power outlets! None of my electronics would last 15 hours (our first flight length) so if not be sure keep a little bag with your headphones, chargers, and adapters easily accessible. Incase your wondering, EVA Airlines has power and USB outlets, so convenient!

Before you head to the airport, there are two things you should consider doing 1. Drink lots of water! Keep yourself hydrated, flying makes me so thirsty and I end up avoiding liquids for obvious reasons and dehydrate myself. Not this time! By showing up for my flights already hydrated, I arrived in Bali ready to explore! 2. Exercise! Before we left, Jules and I hit the gym for an intense workout and yoga session. Getting energy out before a looong sedentary day makes all the difference in any efforts of enjoying your flight.

6. BRING A FRIEND

Overall, the best tip I have to enjoying a long flight is good company! Having Jules with me was such a blessing, so I highly recommend a travel buddy to share your adventure with. If you need some more great tips, check out Jules post on How to Survive a Ridiculously Long Flight here!
